On Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019, the Dallas County USDA Service Center’s staff held their annual Open House/Customer Appreciation Day. It was a very special occasion celebrating the Dallas County Soil and Water Conservation District’s 50th Anniversary. Senator Sandy Crawford presented a resolution to the SWCD board in honor of the anniversary. Also in attendance was Colleen Meredith - DNR Soil and Water Conservation Program Director and J. R. Flores, NRCS State Conservationist. Several walls of photos were displayed of current and past board members and staff.
Approximately 106 cooperators, residents and agency staff shared food and fellowship during this event.
Although free to attend, donations are requested for Dallas County’s local food bank - Heart to Heart Outreach Ministries for an entry to be eligible for door prizes. This year, 62 prizes were contributed by local individuals and businesses. Those contributing included: Buffalo Reflex, Katrina's Flowers, O'Bannon Bank, O'Reilly Auto Parts, FlowerWorks Floral and Gifts, MFA Farm and Home, ABC Motors, Woods Supermarket, Los Hermanos, Lento Ranch, Oak Star Bank, Hostetler Dutch Country Store, CashSaver Food Outlet, EverSlim, Heading Brothers Feed, Polk County SWCD, Hurricane Bay Car Wash and Catfish Café.
Following the event, the Dallas County Soil and Water Conservation District’s and the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s staff were able to present Heart to Heart with 274 pounds of food and $257 in cash collected.
