The Carter County Soil & Water Conservation Dept. hosted an Eco Day for Carter County’s 5th graders. At Eco Day, the students learn about different eco systems within our county and how what we do can affect them how they can help them from being damaged or lost.
The kids rotated through 9 stations. They were shown: how rain/water run-off is all a part of a watershed and it all ends up in one large water body at some point, bat, quail and other animal habitats, forestry and forest fires and controlled burns, how to survive in the forest, soil health and how to reduce the erosion of it, and how everyday items can be reused, recycled and some usage actually reduced.
The SWCD appreciates and thanks all the folks from other Conservation agencies that helps get this activity accomplished for the kids: Missouri Dept. of Conservation, National Forest Service, Natural Resource Conservation Service and other friends and volunteers of the schools and SWCD staff.
