District Specialist

The Polk County SWCD is taking applications for a full time District Specialist Applicant must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED, College degree is preferred however is not required. Applicant must pass a background check. Job duties will include working with the Soil and Water Conservation District and the Natural Resources Conservation Service assisting landowners of the county with state and federal farm programs. Strong computer skills and good public relation skills are required. Knowledge of maps and ability to use ArcGIS is a plus. Great communication skills are needed both in spoken word and in written text. The physical capability to cover rough terrain is required. Must be able to be out in all types of weather. Farm background would be an asset. Some equipment (no-till drill) maintenance will be required. Experience with using GPS equipment, measuring wheels, tape measures, and digital camera is preferred but will train the right applicant as needed. A valid driver’s license is required. A vehicle will be available for field work and necessary travel. This is a full time position with paid holidays, annual and sick leave provided, also health and retirement benefits. The starting rate will be $15.00 per hour. Increase in salary will be determined upon the employee meeting job expectations and as experience and training has been gained.
