The 4th Annual Environmental Day was held at a local county school on Friday, Oct. 15. This yearly event is hosted by the Smithfield Environmental Team in Milan, Mo. The environmental team demonstrated the testing of turbidity, dissolved oxygen, temperature and pH from local lake waters. The team also talked about World Water Monitoring Day and had many facts and questions for the students. The students were divided into 4 teams which enabled them to complete their own testing of turbidity, dissolved oxygen, temperature and pH. After testing was complete, students enjoyed pizza, chips and soda. After eating the students were able to participate in aluminum recycling as well, by crushing their soda cans. This is an amazing event and the Grundy County SWCD is honored to be a part of youth education in conjunction with the Smithfield Environmental Team.
