The 7th Annual Environmental Day was held at a local county school on Oct. 24, 2013. This yearly event is hosted by the Smithfield Environmental Team in Milan, Mo. The environmental team provides an opportunity for students to complete testing of turbidity, dissolved oxygen, temperature and pH on local lake waters. Students are divided into teams so everyone has the opportunity to have hands-on experience with the testing. The Smithfield Environmental Team provides pizza, chips and pop for the students to enjoy after their testing has been complete. As well every student is encouraged to recycle their aluminum cans by using the monster can crusher. I would like to thank the Smithfield Environmental Team for their efforts to provide environmental education, with hands on learning to the youth of the community.
