9/12/11 - 9/14/12 Boonville, Mo “Taking Charge of Your Future”
This is the 17th Annual Women In Agriculture Conference.
The conference is hosted in various locations in Missouri every year.
The torch was passed to Northwest Missouri for the 2012 Conference.
This was an amazing conference. Several vendor displays were set up ranging from Thirty-One (purse/totes), soaps and lotions, MDC, Mizzou, handmade baskets and so much more. Monday kicked off with the opening session with a welcome by Boonville Mayor Julie Thacher, comments by Drenda Williams, NRCS and Session speaker Charlie Hopper, Marketing Specialist for Agribusiness, Missouri Department of Agriculture. Following Opening Session the ladies had workshops that ranged from Basic Beekeeping by Steve Moeller, Boone Regional Beekeepers; Pesticide Safety by Darryl Slade, Missouri Department of Agriculture; How to Prepare your Child for the Future by Roberta Carson, Counselor at Boonville High School and Forest Management & Your Economic Returns with Kristen Goodrich & Ann Koenig, Missouri Department of Conservation. The Monday evening entertainment was a very enlightening talk with Senator Jean Carnahan.
On Tuesday all the ladies loaded the tour bus to begin the adventure to Warm Springs Ranch, Home of the World-Famous Budweiser Clydesdales! Words can NOT describe the beautiful and scenic venue! Staff was impeccable and you could tell they take pride and love what they do. We did learn that when a Clydesdale is born, their birth weight can range from 150-200 pounds. This is unbelievable, but our awesome tour guide reminded us that momma weighs around 2000 pounds! The tour took us throughout the amazing beautiful barn/stable, viewed their awesome mode of transportation across the world and ended with the most amazing part of the day...standing beside and petting one of the Clydesdales. Next our tour took us to J Huston Tavern in Arrow Rock for an amazing luncheon. Time was allowed for the ladies to traipse around Arrow Rock and see some of their historic sites. Next stop Starr Pines Christmas Tree Farm. Wayne and Ann Harmon opened Starr Pines to the public on Thanksgiving Day in 1990. Wayne gave tours on his John Deere 620 with trailers in tow. Ladies had the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful trees, see the many varieties of trees and were able to view (from a distance) the bee hives. At the same time Ann, who has been an Aromatherapist for over 20 years took the ladies to the outdoor still where she explained the process to use fresh grown herbs, berries and leaves to distill and utilize the hydrosols to create natural and safe aromatherapies.
On Wednesday our day began with a Stress Management Workshop, followed by a choice of workshops for Lifestyle Habits to Prevent & Manage Type 2 Diabetes and Growing Your Own Herbs. The morning ended with a closing luncheon and guest speaker Teresa Snow, KRCG Television News Anchor. Yet another awesome conference for Women In Ag and all of us ladies look forward to next year!
