Grundy County Soil and Water Conservation District was able to participate in World Water Monitoring Day. This yearly event is hosted by Smithfield. The Smithfield Environmental Team consisting of Mike Keith, Ken Dunlap and Josh McCabe worked with local students on temperature, acidity (pH), clarity (turbidity) and dissolved oxygen (DO) testing of a local body of water. Each process was performed with help from the student body. Students were then divided into three groups which allowed them to personally run at least one analysis. This is a great hands on approach to empower students to be environmental friendly and conscientious of water quality. After the completion of water analysis students, teachers and the Environmental team shared pizza, chips and soda.
