37th Annual Poster Contest
POSTER CONTEST - 4th & 5th Grade Students, PHOTO CONTEST - 7th -12th Grade Students
The Lafayette Soil and Water Conservation District is sponsoring its Thirty-Seventh Annual Poster Contest. The theme is “Watersheds--Our Water,Our Home" . Students will have the opportunity to explore the importance of trees in the environment, how we use trees in our daily lives, what are the threats to our trees and forests, and how to protect our trees & forests.
Any 4th or 5th grade student in Lafayette County may participate in this contest. The Lafayette SWCD provides students/schools with the poster board. Any student/school may contact the district office if they wish to participate. The Lafayette SWCD will also provide educational materials for teachers & students that matches the poster contest theme.
To receive poster board & educational materials furnished by the Lafayette County Soil District, please call the office 660-584-8732 ext #3 or e-mail Susie at susie.struchtemeyer@swcd.mo.gov with the number of students and sheets of poster board for your classroom/school as soon as possible . The contest ends February 22, 2018.
Awards will be handed out at the Lafayette Soil & Water Conservation District Open House Luncheon on Thursday, March 15, 2018. The top four winners in each grade will be notified by mail to their home as well as an e-mail to their school and invited to the Open House to receive their ribbons and cash prizes.
Lafayette SWCD 7th-12th Grade Photo Contest
The Lafayette Soil and Water Conservation District is once again sponsoring a photo contest for students in grades 7-12. Students can submit a photo that fits in one of the four photo categories: conservation practices, nature, ag/conservation across America.
Photos will be judged on technical merit and composition. For technical merit, judges will check to see if the photo is well-framed, properly exposed, and sharp and clear. For composition, judges will determine if the photo features a recognizable center of interest, action and imagination, and creativity. Photos must be submitted in electronic format via email to susie.struchtemeyer@swcd.mo.gov. A completed entry form must accompany the entry, and a signed photo release form needs to be mailed to the Lafayette SWCD at 120 W 19th St, Suite 3, Higginsville, MO 64037. Photo entries and release forms must be submitted to the Soil District by Feb 22, 2018. One award and cash prize will be presented to the winning entry at the Lafayette SWCD Open House which will be held on Thurs., March 15, 2018. The winning entry will then be entered in the National Association of Conservation District Contest for 2018..
