The Missouri Delta Soil Health Alliance, along with the Stoddard County NRCS and SWCD office, hosted their second annual soil health field day in Stoddard and New Madrid Counties on March 8, 2016. Ray Archuletta and Adam Daugherty, both nationally known NRCS employees who focus on soil health using cover crops, were the key speakers at each stop. Soil Health basics were taught at the beginning of the day with several eye opening demonstrations. Throughout the day we visited the farms of Johnny Hunter, Joe Hendley, Keith Mayberry, Allen Below and Peter Rost, Jr. They each explained what they have experienced since they have started using cover crops. Different cropping situations were addressed at each stop which included corn, beans, cotton, rice and a livestock/row crop operation. The day was very informative and we look forward to hosting more events in the future.
